Here in New Zealand, Halloween isn't really recognized. Children don't grow up dressing up as their favorite story book characters or super heros. They don't even know what trick-or-treating is. And in Europe halloween is considered evil and is not really 'celebrated' either. Yet in North America, children are allowed to do this for fun. And when they grow up, they can dress up in a 'slutty' version of their childhood costumes and go out to the clubs. Instead of being a clown, it becomes a 'sexy' clown. And instead of being a bumble bee, it becomes a 'sexy' bumble bee. Gross. I just think this is sad.
That was my rant for the day.
(Ughhhh, there is some sort of bug terrorizing me as I try to write this. It keeps biting me and then flitting around my face. But the lights are not on out of courtesy to my roommates, so I can't kill the bug. Oh the pain I endure just for the sake of being polite...)
Yesterday afternoon, when I left off, I was about to have a super awesome afternoon involving exercise and basically doing nothing. Man was it great. I went for a short run because the sun was beating down on me and I really just wanted to lay in the grass. So I ran for 15 minutes and laid in the grass and sun-bathed. Then I found Mah girl, Hannah D from Tennessee (I hope you noticed the awesome rhyme that I just made), and we went over the songs that I chose for worship on Friday. And then we watched Once Upon A Time for a few hours. Then it was bed time. Ahhh what a day.
Most of my fellow students were off volunteering at the 'Light Party', which is a party at a Church somewhere close-by where they have a bit of an anti-Halloween party involving costumes, candy and games. It was optional for us to go, so I decided it would be better for me and everyone else for me to have some down time and thinking time. Man, was I right! (Ughhhhhhh. This bug is so annoying.)
Speaking of bugs, there are these obnoxious little flies here called sand flies (or something like that), according to Kyle. And they look like black aphids, and they suck your blood. Well actually, that may be a lie. I don't know if they actually suck it. But they for sure bite you, and blood comes out. And I think I am slightly allergic to them because they swell up and look like nipples all over my body. It is really attractive.
Speaking of nipples, today Jacob was talking about nutella on toast, and how he wishes that he had his own loaf of bread so that he could have nutella on toast available for him to eat at all times of the day. And, since he loves kittens, he had to make a kitten reference. So he compared the availability of nutella and bread, to the availability of milk (from a nipple) to a kitten. Janessa automatically thought that he was referring to a kitten sucking milk out of a human nipple. Ummmm. Ew. I don't know where she got that from, but I rebuke it in the name of Jesus.
Today was a full day. I am wayyyyyy too tired to write in detail about all of it. So I will write it in point form:
- wake up
- go to breakfast.... Oh wait, there is no breakfast because today is Thursday and we fast on Thursdays. Dang.
- OMGOSH I HAVE SLAPPED MYSELF IN THE FACE SO MANY TIMES TRYING TO KILL THIS STUPID SAND FLY AND I HAVE NOT YET SUCCEEDED. IT IS HUMILIATING ME.
- Instead of breakfast, we prayed for our outreach locations
- OMGOSH THERE ARE TWO STUPID FLIES!
- After 'breakfast' frantically pick songs with Kat, because we reallized that we had signed up to sing at the coffee shop for our outreach this afternoon!
- 9:00 Base intercession - weird prayer walk thing. I sat in the gazebo and prayed instead.
- 10:00 Lecture - Josh and Misty talked about romance and marriage relationships. Super interesting! Maybe I will write about it another day!
- 12:45 Lunch! Oh wait.... it is the last thursday in the month (sort of), so we are fasting all day! Shucks. We worshipped.
- 2:00 Go to Robert Harris and jam with Kat, Beth, and Hannah D. It was super fun.
- When we got back, Kat and I wrote a song about the song of songs. Super awesome! We wanted to write about it because Josh taught a bit on that book this morning.
- I got a really good tan because we were outside writing. Awe yeah. You should all be jealous up in the Northern Hemisphere in the snow!
- 5:30 Supper! Dang. Not supper. We are fasting. Poop. More prayer for outreach. And prophesy. Our team will be super LOVING and will leave a NEW LEGACY. Sweet.
- 6:00 REAL SUPPER! WOOOHOOOO I ATE SO MUCH
- 7:30 Outreach meeting number 2!
- 9:00 Worship practice for tomorrow morning! I am leading. I am so unorganized! Wooohoo! But it will be super awesome! And I have Jacob, Henk and Hannah D on my team. We are having all strings and an egg shaker. It will be so great! I'm so excited!
- 11:18 still writing blog
